Review Topic: IR-1/CR-1 Visa

Hi everyone, today we had our CR1 interview and we were approved!!! We arrived at the costa rican consulate at approx. 11:45am. We had to wait on the left side entrance of the building in a line of about 30 other people waiting for similar visas. There might have been 3 other couples like us waiting to do CR1.
Once it was 12pm, they started to let people in 1 at a time to go through a security check point, similar to that at an airport. They will take any electronic devices that you have IE: cell phone, camera, ipod etc.. and they will give you a key to claim it on your way out. They will take it while you are in the consulate. Once we passed security, we walked through a courtyard passing by a food stand (good to know that it is there for later) and rows of people sitting in chairs outside waiting for their tourist visas. Since we were immigrating into the u.s (well my husband) we went inside of another building with airconditiong!! and waited in there. There were 4 rows of bl... read complete review

We arrived to the embassy 30 minutes before the appointment and had to wait outside but we were the first in line and were helped almost right away. Maybe 15-20 minutes total wait.
The first window my wife and I went to had a really nice lady who went through a giant checklist of everything that was required. We had everything and there were two corrections that the lady helped us fix with white-out and then just asked a couple of clarifying questions and organized our folder. She then directed us to sit down and wait to get fingerprinted at another window.
After 30-40 minutes she got finger-printed and then was directed to sit down again and wait for the consular to review everything.
The consular was a very nice and friendly interviewer and asked us where support was going to come from and how long we knew eachother. Just a couple of minutes and then he said, you can pick up your passport with the visa in it on Friday at 3pm! Great experience all around.

AN EXCELLENT EXPERIENCE!!!! The interview was scheduled for 12 noon and we arrived 45 minutes early. There was no need to be early because the doors do not open until noon. So, we went to a nearby restaurant (soda) near the Embassy and had an early lunch and practiced questions and answers for the interview. After lunch we went back to the Embassy and entered by showing our Passports and went through a short security checkpoint where they looked at Elsie\'s unopened medical exam papers and then stapled them closed again. We went through the airport style metal detector and directly across a courtyard to the waiting area for those getting the Immigrant Visas. (Other people seeking a visitors visa had to wait in an outside area.) At the door, we were given a ticket number which would be called when it was our turn. We entered this waiting area which was very comfortable...air conditioned, etc. and took our seats. There are digital displays of the numbers being called displayed in several... read complete review

Our Appointment for the Interview was at 12pm. We got to the Embassy about 11:45...Others were coming at the same time, but we were the first ones. After going thru security, we received a special number for the K-1 Visa interview (they had a list with our names and the other people going for the K-1). After about 5 minutes, we were called to the window to check all of our papers. First they wanted the passports for my fiance and her daughter..then they asked us for the filled out DS-156 forms...2 copies for my fiance and 2 for her daughter..then they wanted the form DS-230..1 copy for each. Then...they asked for the registros for my fiance (Single Certificate...Note from the Police, and of course the Birth Certificate). We had all those translated as requested in the paper we received from the Embassy. They then asked for the pictures (needed 4 of them for both my fiance and her daughter). Finally, they asked for the Medical packet. They opened that up and put everything toge... read complete review

The wait was long, about 1 1/2 hours. First, went to the window and the lady looked through the papers to make sure that they were all there. Then that's when the 1 1/2 wait occured. The consulate was late, but was called in quickly once he arrived. He really only asked a couple of questions, like how we met my fiancee's name, her occupation, my occupation, and where she lives. He didn't look at any of the extra photos brought. Then the interview was over and said I could come by in 4 business days to pick it up. Overall pretty good.
